Using the Front End Editor

Click the pen icon to edit. You can type or paste text from other applications (e.g. Microsoft Word), and style and format this text using the panel of buttons that appears at the bottom of the screen. Click the yellow “+” icon to insert a picture, audio file, video, or photo gallery. Click the blue “disk” icon on the bottom right to save your changes, or click the yellow “X” on the bottom right to cancel your changes and revert to the previously saved version of the page.

By default, new posts or pages created with the front end editor are saved as drafts. To publish, click the green button in the bottom right corner. (It won’t appear until you make some edits/additions.) You can also return to a previous draft, click the Post Settings icon (the little wrench/screwdriver icon) and change its status from draft to published.

Using the Dashboard

Click “Edit Page” in the gray bar at the top of the screen, or browse to Dashboard > Pages > Edit. Use the WordPress “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG) editor to format text and add media. When you are finished, click the blue “Update” button on the right-hand side.

To edit images that you have uploaded to your site, click Edit Photo and you can crop, rotate, resize, etc. You may find this brief video tutorial helpful.

Here’s a 2-minute video tutorial showing how to add audio files to your site with either the front end or dashboard:

This will enable you to add your Oral History to your site. To publish a Curated Life Review video, please upload your video to a video hosting site such as YouTube or Vimeo, then embed the video in a page on your site. If you do not wish to have your video appear in search results, make sure it is “unlisted”; if you set the permissions to “private,” it cannot be embedded in your PAL site, but an “unlisted” video can be embedded in your PAL site but will not be published to YouTube directly.

Note: All pages on the site may be edited with the Front End editor except the Mapping the Legacy Grid page, because this page contains code that powers the grid display. If you wish to modify this page (for example, to add introductory text above the grid itself), please use the Dashboard.
