{"id":548,"date":"2020-11-19T15:12:32","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T20:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/performingartslegacy.org\/emmonsbeverly\/?p=548"},"modified":"2020-12-10T15:03:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T20:03:30","slug":"physics-or-bureaucracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/performingartslegacy.org\/emmonsbeverly\/physics-or-bureaucracy\/","title":{"rendered":"Physics or Bureaucracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often in the course of our work in the technical part of theatre we are put in a position of needing something to be done and having to negotiate with other powers\u2026General Managers, Production Managers, Heads of various departments, Carpenters, Electricians, Prop Men.&nbsp; I have found that when one is asking for something a little different from what is normally done often the first answer is \u201cthat\u2019s impossible\u201d.&nbsp; I have developed a response:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIs that because of Physics or Bureaucracy?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have asked to move a drape to a pipe 3\u2019 upstage of where it is now.&nbsp; I\u2019m told \u201cit\u2019s impossible\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My question is Why?&nbsp; Is it because there is a physical obstruction where that pipe is that would prevent the drape from, let\u2019s say, flying out??
