SUELLEN ESTEY<\/b> grew up in a small town in Iowa. On her\u00a0walk to school, she would look up. If there was plane overhead, would\u00a0say a prayer, \u201cPlease, God, may I be on that plane going \u2026\u00a0anywhere.\u201d The path that opened, was first, Stephens College and Okoboji\u00a0Summer Theater.\u00a0Then, a transfer to Northwestern University, where she earned her BA degree in Theater Arts. Her first professional paycheck was $90.00 per week from Wagon\u00a0Wheel Playhouse in Warsaw, Indiana.\u00a0She returned to Chicago and began knocking on doors, submitting her\u00a0picture and resume to the doorman of the Schubert Theater. This led\u00a0to an audition for the touring company of\u00a0Sweet Charity<\/b>\u00a0starring\u00a0Chita Rivera.\u00a0She auditioned. She got the job. She got her Actors\u2019 Equity Card on\u00a0that stage. Within the next two years, she was cast as \u201cPegeen Ryan\u201d in the post-Broadway engagement of\u00a0Mame<\/b>\u00a0starring Angela Lansbury, playing\u00a0the Curran Theater in San Francisco and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion\u00a0in LA. The day after\u00a0Mame<\/b>\u00a0closed, she carried her makeup kit to the\u00a0other end of the Music Center, to begin as the \u201ctelephone girl\u201d and understudy for \u201cSally Bowles\u201d in the national tour of\u00a0Cabaret<\/b>.\u00a0That was the beginning \u2026<\/i> SuEllen\u2019s most\u00a0recent Broadway performance was as \u201cQueen of Transylvania\u201d in the Tony nominated revival of\u00a0<\/span>My Fair Lady<\/b>\u00a0for Lincoln Center Theater, directed by Bartlett Sher.<\/span><\/p>\n

SuEllen Estey has appeared in more than 150 professional productions.<\/p>\n

SuEllen is still actively performing. In the summer of 2022, she\u00a0performed the role of \u201cBerthe\u201d in a production of PIPPIN<\/b>\u00a0at Playhouse on Park, in West Hartford, CT.<\/span><\/p>\n

SuEllen Estey\u2019s papers are being collected at her alma mater in the\u00a0Northwestern University Archives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
