{"id":143,"date":"2018-03-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/performingartslegacy.org\/galarno\/?p=143"},"modified":"2018-03-26T14:35:54","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T18:35:54","slug":"alhambra-dinner-theatre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/performingartslegacy.org\/galarno\/alhambra-dinner-theatre\/","title":{"rendered":"Alhambra Dinner Theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Way back in 1958 I got&nbsp;a call from my agent, Ruth Webb.&nbsp; A new theatre in Florida was rehearsing&nbsp;<strong>The Fantasticks&nbsp;<\/strong>without a \u201cMatt\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Would I step in?&nbsp; I had played the role two years earlier in Myrtle Beach, so I said \u201cYes!\u201d&nbsp; The Alhambra Dinner&nbsp;Theatre was a beauty, complete with a fountain and palm trees out front.&nbsp; The company was happy to see me, and we had an idyllic run.&nbsp; Fast forward to 2017.<\/p>\n<p>I received a phone call from Tod Booth, the current Artistic Director of the Alhambra, asking if I would play \u201cCaptain Andy\u201d in&nbsp;<strong>Show Boat<\/strong>.&nbsp; I flew down to Jacksonville in early February and went to work.&nbsp; The theatre was as beautiful as it had been 49 years earlier, and the company once again was a joy.&nbsp; Adding to the excitement, George Ballis, who had directed our&nbsp;<strong>Fantasticks&nbsp;<\/strong>production those may years ago, took in a performance and waited with his wife to see me.&nbsp; We hugged and reminisced.&nbsp; It was a happy event.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, the Alhambra, celebrating its half-century mark, published a hard-cover coffee table book, with all those years in text and photos.&nbsp; And there we were! \u2014 me and Joelle Jons, as \u201cMatt\u201d and \u201cLuisa\u201d \u2014 in a scene from our show.&nbsp; How\u2019s that for a welcome back?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Way back in 1958 I got&nbsp;a call from my agent, Ruth Webb.&nbsp; A new theatre in Florida was rehearsing&nbsp;The Fantasticks&nbsp;without a \u201cMatt\u201d.
