Bolton Hill Theatre is doing Under The Yum Yum Tree\u2026I\u2019m cast, but the Bolton Hill Theatre is in Baltimore.
\nBaltimore isn\u2019t that far, but it is \u2018out of town\u2019.<\/p>\n
The train from Penn Station in NYC to Penn Station Baltimore takes about three hours.<\/p>\n
As I drag my trunk-sized suitcase down the platform, a man waving a poster board sign, \u2018Welcome to Baltimore\u2019s Yum Yum Tree\u2019 , grins as he skips toward me.<\/p>\n
Auggie Dorset, a one man welcoming committee.<\/p>\n
We drive to Auggie\u2019s apartment where I\u2019m greeted by Yum Yum cast members and the aroma of herbs, spices and\u00a0\u00a0\u2018Is that fresh bread?\u2019<\/p>\n
Auggie laughs, \u201cActors are always hungry.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cLucky for us, we can\u2019t keep Auggie out of the kitchen.\u201d , the cast reply.<\/p>\n
Okay besides being a living encyclopedia on the Baltimore-Washington theatre scene, passionate for Maryland Public Television, Auggie loves to cook. How lucky can I get.<\/p>\n
Maryland is famous for Crabs. Auggie\u2019s involved in a sketch comedy show, \u2018Crabs\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0Perfect name for an irreverent comic relief show for Maryland Public TV\u2026proving that public TV isn\u2019t only about education. Hopes are high that this comedy will go National.<\/p>\n
Auggie and I share April birthdays. He tells me, my birthday happens to be same day as one of Baltimore\u2019s celebrities. He organizes an excursion to one of Baltimore\u2019s prime tourist attractions. We are celebrating at The Block\u2019s, Two O\u2019Clock Club. That\u2019s right the club owned by that iconic red head, with a gimmick, Blaze Starr. Only Auggie! Well he\u2019s an Army vet and Blaze is a regular entertainer at the VA, where Auggie also volunteers.<\/p>\n
Two weeks of rehearsal, six weeks of performance fly by and I\u2019m on the platform at Penn Station, Baltimore, waving good-by to the man with the grin as big as his heart.<\/p>\n
