\nJohn Singer Sargent (1856 \u2013 1925), the most successful portrait painter
\nof his era, lays bare his thorny relationships with models Thomas
\nMcKeller, Wilhelm Kamp & patroness Isabella Stewart Gardner while
\ndesperately seeking non-portraiture as his legacy. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

McKeller became Sargent\u2019s most \\”useful\\” life drawing model, standing in
\nfor men, women, the politically powerful, all forms of gods, goddesses
\nand white people. The portrait of a totally uncovered Thomas McKeller,
\nwas only displayed \\”discretely & infrequently\\” to Sargent’s closest
\nfriends, never publicly during Sargent\u2019s lifetime. It was \\”unseen\\” for
\nnearly 100 years finally exhibited in 2020 at Boston’s Gardner Museum.<\/p>\n
