She is currently writing about growing up Southern in the Mississippi Delta, where she was born and raised.<\/p>\n<p>She has run the gamut from theatre, cabaret, TV, film, playwriting, directing, producing and script analysis. She modeled in her youth and is in the Breck Girls Hall of Fame. She was the model in the Mitsouko by Guerlain ad in the 1960s, which won awards internationally. She was a nominee for Best Actress in the Hollywood NAACP Image Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Her proudest role to date is Grandmother &#8212; to three fabulous grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Early influences<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wing \u2013 OH 1 \u2013 00:35 \u201cI was born in Marks, Mississippi, during the time of extreme segregation\u2026\u201d \u2013 3:35 \u201c\u2026in the back of the store.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Virginia introduces herself and talks about growing up Chinese in segregated Mississippi, and performing for her first audience in her father\u2019s grocery store.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Learning to act and creating a character<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wing \u2013 OH 2 \u2013 14:50 \u201cI played a stripper once\u2026\u201d \u2013 18:38 \u201c\u2026seems to be unnatural.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Virginia talks about roles she is drawn to, not conforming to Asian stereotypes, and feeling freer to bear her soul in front of an audience of thousands rather than in her own living room.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Aging, motivation, discrimination<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wing \u2013 OH 3 \u2013 31:12 \u201cI\u2019ve had younger actors\u2026\u201d \u2013 33:45 \u201c\u2026and don\u2019t let anybody tell you you don\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Virginia talks about career stamina, times she felt her existence was dismissed, and the grit it takes to continue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[aesop_audio title=&#8221;Part 1&#8243;
