Mrs Harkness fired the company after all the hard touring the company had been done. Back in NY Mrs, Harkness was being influence by nay-sayers saying the artistic directors had overstep their bounds not listening to her directive about programming, etc. In truth this was a very sought after company with a wonderful repertory. Dates In London, Paris, Italy were canceled. The last performance I brought the curtain up on a crying company. European Impresario were offering the company job offers to stay in Europe. Most of us returned to New York to collect unemployment and pick up the pieces from our truncated lives. My colleague Nick Cernovitch was offered a job as lighting designer with Les Grands Ballets Canadien in Montreal. I was soon to follow as stage manager with that company.
