This is the fourth play that follows the character Cyma Lozawick (Simi Lasser) from 1913 Russia to 1922 New York City, 1930's Shoshone, Wyoming and finally to post World War II Berlin, Germany. This is the first time I played the role that had been played previously by Jackie S. Freeman. To research 1946 Berlin and the displaced refugees of Europe, I was given access to the United Nations Archive, then located in Manhattan. I looked through boxes of documents, including the minutes of meetings sent from the head of the displaced persons camp back to the NYC office. I also obtained access to the archives of the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee ("The Joint"), an organization that had been helping immigrants and refugees since the turn of the 20th century. A woman who worked there called me the day after my visit. "I heard about your play and thought maybe I could help. I was in a dp camp when I was a child. I could tell you about it. I don't want to be a celebrity, that's not why I'm asking." Some incidents she related ended up in my play, adding to what I hoped was the authenticity of my play.
