Looking over these headshots covering 40 years, they reflect not just my lifespan, but the times they were taken in. The first, youngest, headshot I had taken was done by a friend, and printed up in his own home studio with that hard photo paper used at that time. It was formed in chemical baths, and you can see in the photo how the paper curled. The next photo shows better processing, but still done by friends, as a professional was way too costly. The third one was when I came to NYC and had them done, expensively, by the most famous Broadway photographer at the time, Martha Swope. I remember her makeup artist insisted on drawing my lips much, much larger than my natural ones. She insisted it would not show on the photo. The next several were done so beautifully by Andrew Brucker, whose ability to focus so sharply on the eyes is magical. Truly. The first color one was done when I was in Vienna, (navy blue Nehru collar), as headshots were far less costly there- about a third of the cost of New York ones. The final shot was taken by another friend, the actor and professional photographer Tom Bloom. He used natural light and no makeup, but a little lip color. The final blue collage- that was my stationery. I had it printed in navy, brown, and my fav, a turquoise color.
