The business of show is more than just the productions we do. There is a community that becomes our extended family. There are friendships and the support of each other in all of our endeavors. AND there is service we can give to that community. I am very proud of my service to the theatrical community.
1) I am a very proud union member. I joined Actors’ Equity Association in 1967 and in 1994 was elected to Council and served until 2022. A Councilor is like a board member and we are tasked to make sure the working community has the best working rules as possible. The accomplishments I am most proud of: getting recognition on the title page or cast page for stage managers, reestablishing the Public Policy Committee, endorsing political candidates and even establishing a PAC to give those candidates money, and producing a performing arts inauguration event for President Obama in 2009.
2) The Stage Managers’ Association was founded in 1982 by a group of stage managers fighting for conversion rights to move to Broadway from an Off Broadway Show. I am a founding member and served as President for 2 years.
3) The Stage Managers’ Association Foundation was founded in 2022 by a group of SMA members to give grants to stage managers developing projects or theaters and organizations to develop stage manager programs. I am a founding member serving on the Board.
4) Broadway Green Alliance was founded 15 years ago by the producer of Wicked. This organization has blossomed into a national force in our community. We have Green Captains on all Broadway Shows, many Off-Broadway shows and theaters and productions across the country. The BGA now produces an annual Earth Day Concert in Times Square. I serve on the Steering Committee and production manage the Concert.
5) BC/EFA is a major not for profit organization for our community. It was formed to help our community support each other during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. Since then, it has become an internationally renown organization helping our members as well as people and causes that our members support. I am very proud of all of times I have volunteered on fundraising events that they produce: The Easter Bonnet and Red Bucket Competitions, Nothing Like A Dame Concerts, and The Flea Market
