While Carole King was doing her sound check the sound person kept hearing squeaky noises. He tried everything even turned off the entire system. The noises were still there. We finally discovered that the huge flower arrangements in front of the stage had crickets in them. We all had a good laugh and got the flowers outside and all was well.

Many years later I was stage managing the opening ceremonies at the US Open and Carole King was singing the anthem or America- (not sure which). Her manager came up to me and ask if we knew each other. I reminded her of the Westport event and we both had a great laugh and reminiscence about the event. The next time I worked an event with Carole King was Nancy Pelosi’s inauguration ball when she was first elected Speaker of the House.

I love the cobwebs of our lives in this business.
