Review Excerpts

“SHAKESPEARE’S ‘SHREW’ TAMED WITH FINE TOUCH, GREAT FUN….Two minor roles are gems…seldom does a young man convince absolutely of old age. Randy Kim as Gremio does. His makeup, use of hands, movement are remarkably old and funny. He is superb in reporting to Tranio the events which took place at the church.”

“CHAMPLAIN SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL DOES A BLOCKBUSTER ‘SHREW’….What Randy Kim should do is stay in Burlington—as no doubt every town that sees him would claim. This gifted young man’s wizardry gives us a bandy-legged, infirm, crackle-voiced old Gremio whose every word is funny (and if you think that’s Shakespeare’s doing, look again.) Stance, gait, slightly arthritic hand-rubbings, tilt of head are all those of an old man, and all with a comic touch. His brilliant costume is tasselled like a Victorian lampshade, and he really does make a huggy, deliciously entertaining picture.”
–Ruth W. Page, SUBURBAN LIST (7/22/1971)

“FESTVAL ‘SHREW’ IS UNTAMED”….There are performances that stand out even in this finely-polished whole. Randy Kim, exhibiting a superb skill for make-up and character becomes the aging Gremio down to his toenails.”
