My first New York contract Off Broadway AND with the legendary NEGRO ENSEMBLE COMPANY!!! This was a reboot of the show that was done in 1974. I was a member of the chorus/ensemble and had some solo work.
During a rehearsal in St. Croix one the actors, REYNO, hurt his knee and could not continue with the show. Everyone else was assigned some of his parts and I was asked to take over the major role he played. NIGGUHTOE, who danced in a bar for change and danced himself to death as the meanest of the racist patrons of the bar shot at his feet to make him dance faster till his body fell . I played a young boy.
