I began transitioning from on stage work to playwriting in earnest with contemporary adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays. Currently, I am adapting MIDSUMMER NIGHT’s DREAM to Washington D.C. present day with Mr. Puck and Mz. Bette Bottom, both Congressional staffers, taking over the proceedings. This MIDNIGHT’s DREAM was developed in a Fellowship Writing Residency at Vermont Studio Center in March 2018 specifically for Shakespeare’s New Contemporaries Playwriting Initiative at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA. My other adaptations include The LEARS: Fools of Fortune; 12th NIGHTed; SLIPPERY: A Wintry Tale; TEMPEST, VARIED LIVES…a 1930’s MERRY WIVES of WINDSOR for 6 men, and AARON’s REVENGER’s TRAGEDY.
AARON’s REVENGER’s TRAGEDY, a mash up of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, Penny Dreadful “The String of Pearls” a.k.a. Sweeney Todd, and Middleton’s The Revenger’s Tragedy
In planning stages are…
SHAMING of the SHREWD, Kate’s POV on Taming of the Shrew; I am ashamed that men can be so simple…
Shakespeare conjures TROILUS & CRESSIDA’s Pandarus to do a
makeover on HENRY VI’s Joan of Arc. Many other characters join in the
fray as the Bard tries to finally get Joan right.
MORTAL COIL, A Minnesota Hamlet
MERCHANT of VENICE BEACH , a California merchant
And I have been to both Minnesota and Venice Beach.
