This “Rashomon” was remounted in 2002 and ran Off-Broadway at Theatre Row to prepare for Cuba because Pan Asian was re-invited by the Havana Theatre Festival to perform “Rashomon” at the 2003 festival after the original show cancelled the trip because of 9/11.   We were not as big a traveling company this time.  The acting company was the same but only a couple of others travelled with us, what with the new traveling situations after 9/11.

This tour remains one of my all-time favorites.  It was truly exciting to be representing the U.S. at the festival, still the only U.S. theatre company, at that time, to be invited.  Also, just to visit Havana, an almost legendary city by that time, legally, with a license, was an unbelievable, once-in-a- lifetime experience.   And to see the city, so dark, literally crumbling, and to experience the people, so vibrant, so energetic, was extraordinary.  And I haven’t even mentioned the cigars and the rum, which I enjoyed every day, again, once-in-a-lifetime.

And, they loved the show.
