I met Clive Thompson at Jacob’s Pillow. Clive was a principal dancer at Alvin Ailey American Dance Company. Liz Thompson, his wife, was the director of the Pillow at that time. And with the three of us there, at the same time and the same place, an idea was born – to create a new modern company, based in Staten Island. And so it was. In 1982 we establish the Clive Thompson Dance Company, of which I was co-artistic director. We had a small, but dedicated and versatile group of dancers and set on to build a repertoire of new works, including my own choreography, MOMENTS and UNTITLED. I did not stay long with the company, as the opportunity presented itself for me to establish Peridance Center in 1983.
