Songs – Jacob’s Pillow
“A unique experience, a once in a lifetime opportunity, and an immense inspiration” – that’s how I would describe the making of Songs, a ballet I choreographed in the Summer of 1981 for my students at Jacob’s Pillow. I was so fortunate to work with Jess Meeker, Jacob’s Pillow legendary pianist who bridged the years all the way back to Ted Shawn and the founding of the Pillow. And on the young side, the amazing, sensitive, and expressive contra-tenor Charles Lane, and not less inspiring, the talented students of Summer 81. The work was “Songs”, choreographed to a selection from Rachmaninoff songs Op. 14 and Op.34.
