Il Tempo Sullo Sfondo (Time Over the Horizon)
Having staged John Butler’s works at Teatro alla Scala in Milan helped me also introduce my own work as a choreographer. In 1980, I was invited to create a work for the company for a special season of new works, at the Piccola Scala, an intimate venue designed to present more contemporary, and chamber works. While mostly presenting operatic or musical shows, my work was the first dance work to be included. I selected music by Italian composer Armando Gentilucci and set on to make a Trio for Barbara Geroldi and Bruno Vescovo, principal dancers at La Scalla, together with Marco Berichillo, a young, inspiring dancer who has just joined the company. Special projections for the ballet were created by Alberto Fioravanti, whose work as a photographer pioneered new ideas of using special lighting to mimic the sun.
Bruno Vescovo passed away in 2021.
