It was a triple sweep!
I literally screamed when Lisa’s name was called out — then Joel’s — then HOLD THESE TRUTHS for Outstanding Production,
Our NYC production of HOLD THESE TRUTHS, which had toured to TheatreWorks Silicon Valley in 2017, had been nominated for three Bay Area Theatre Awards — Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Direction (for our brilliant Lisa Rothe), and Outstanding Performer in a Principal Role (for our equally brilliant Joel de la Fuente).
And–-we won all three! My husband Tim and I had flown up to San Francisco to attend the award ceremony and we got to spend the night celebrating with TheatreWorks’ wonderful director and casting director Jeffrey Lo,
Our TWSC production was very special for so many reasons — the fact that TWSC is the regional theatre closest to my hometown of Watsonville, the fact that so many old Watsonville friends and family members came to see the production–so many wonderful reunions!–the fact that the Bay Area is so integral to the history of AAPI’s in this country, with such a tremendous and politically active AAPI population.–culturally, artistically, politically.
And so, to be nominated and honored in this way meant the world to us all.
