Thumbs Up from Pat Collins
We were doing “King Richard III” with Kevin Kline at Joseph Papp’s Shakespeare in the Park in the Delacorte Theater. Pat Collins was the lighting designer, Bonnie Panson was the Production Stage Manager, and I was the board operator. When we started having an audience for previews, Pat would sit in the last row, in the center section, directly in front of the control booth. The window was high enough that we just couldn’t see the top of her head, but whenever Bonnie and I hit a light cue perfectly, Pat would thrust her arm into the air and give us a thumbs up. It was great to see this instant approval and it made us work harder to get more ‘likes’ from her.
